Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University, Bangladesh-Bangladesh's first specialized Government digital university. On 26 July 2016, the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh enacted a law in the National Assembly to establish this university on a 50-acre site adjacent to Bangabandhu Hi-Tech Park in Kaliakair, Gazipur District. On June 12, 2016, Professor of Civil Engineering, Bangladesh University of Engineering, former Vice-Chancellor of the National University and former Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Professor Dr. Munaz Ahmed Noor was appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of the University by His Excellency the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh and the Chancellor of the Universities of Bangladesh Md. Abdul Hamid. To make Digital Bangladesh sustainable by implementing the 'Vision 2021' of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, in line with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, to educate, enhance research and improve digital knowledge in various fields of information and communication technology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels to turn young generation into skilled human resources and entrepreneurs Establishment of the University. In the current 2018-2019 academic year, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University, Bangladesh will start its academic activities from March 2019. The Bangladesh University Grants Commission has already given approval to conduct educational activities under two faculties namely the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Educational Research and the Institute for Online and Distance Learning. Students will be admitted initially at the undergraduate level in the Bachelor of Science in IoT under the Faculty of Engineering, Bachelor of Science in ICT in Education under the Faculty of Education and Research. To unveil new aspects of online education in Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University will start student admission program in Certificate Course on Digital Learning Design, Certificate Course on Cyber Security in 2018-2019 academic year under Institute for Online and Distance Learning. These courses are brand new in Bangladesh and among the public-private universities in Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University, Bangladesh is the only university in the country where students from home and abroad have the ability to learn from online. By participating in the Certificate Course on Digital Learning Design, Certificate Course in Cyber Security course, students in Bangladesh and outside Bangladesh will be able to acquire proficiency certificates easily and at low cost which will take Bangladesh one step further in the field of information and communication technology. Timely technology entrepreneurs will be created which will expand the country's technology market and create new jobs.
