BDU History
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University, Bangladesh is the first specialized government digital university in Bangladesh. The Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh enacted a law in the National Assembly on July 26, 2016 to establish this university. The university is situated in Kaliakair, Gazipur District, adjacent to Bangabandhu Hi-Tech Park. The establishment of the university was very much needed to materialize Digital Bangladesh by implementing the 'Vision 2021' of the government in line with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The university was also created to improve digital knowledge in various fields of information and communication technology (ICT) at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The university aims to turn the younger generation into skilled human resources and entrepreneurs. The university started its academic activities in March 2019. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has given approval to conduct educational activities under two faculties and an institute, namely the Faculty of Cyber Physical Systems & the Faculty of Digital Transformations, and the Institute for Online and Distance Learning. Students are admitted at the undergraduate level in the Bachelor of Science in Internet of Things and Robotics Engineering(IRE) under the Faculty of Cyber Physical Systems, Bachelor of Science in Educational Technology (ET) under the Faculty of Digital Transformations. To unveil new aspects of online education in Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University hopes to start student admissions in certificate courses on Digital Learning Design and Cyber Security in future under the Institute for Online and Distance Learning. Moreover, in course of time, this university aims to produce technology entrepreneurs who will expand the country's technology market worldwide and create new jobs.
